Local athletes represent area in AAU Junior Olympic Games
Rouse, Vista Ridge and Vandergrift high school students were among those selected for wrestlers representing Texas in the Junior Olympics.
Five of the 20 wrestlers were returning members of the inaugural eight-man team of 2011, which was separated into team Texas Red and team Texas Blue. “Wrestle offs” were used to determine the placements of wrestlers in the same weight class where winners joined Team Red and the losers joined Team Blue. After competing against 19 teams, Texas Red finished 12th while team Texas Blue finished last.
Second year coach William McKinney said he was pleased with the teams’ efforts. “We weren’t trying to turn the world over,” he said. “They’re gaining experience at the national level and going up against the top competitors in the country.”...READ MORE
